THE SCIENCE & SOUL BEHIND A YEOWARRA TREE

THE RIGHT SPECIES

Our trees come from the Pinus Radiata family — loved for its fresh fragrance and rich, full foliage.

THE RIGHT CLIMATE

Grown in Victoria’s cool (and famously unpredictable) climate, our trees thrive in the conditions they know best.

THE RIGHT SOIL

Through land care and recycling programs, we enrich our soil with organic, nutrient-rich matter to nourish the next generation of trees.

THE RIGHT EXPERIENCE

With over 40 years of growing behind us, we’ve refined our pruning methods and genetic selection to grow the perfect tree for an Aussie Christmas.

THE YEOWARRA WAY

Our Methodology

From seedling to harvest, we nurture each tree according to its growth pattern to give it the best chance of flourishing.

Pollination

Individual pine cones are hand-pollinated in specific seed orchards using genetically-selected parent trees.

Seed

The seed is harvested, dried and then frozen to simulate a winter hibernation period.

Germination

The delicate seeds are planted into potting trays with local soil and high mineral content potting mix.

Planting

Once the seedlings reach a certain height, they are planted into ground that has been prepared for them earlier.

Pruning

Harvest

Our trees find their new homes. Their journey from harvest to home takes no longer than 36 hours, between Adelaide and Noosa.

Returned

After Christmas, the trees we collect are returned to the farm and turned into mulch.

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

Grown and raised in Irrewarra, Victoria.

Nestled between Colac and Geelong, Yeowarra Farm is where Christmas (quite literally) grows on trees.

Since 1986, the McMahon family have been perfecting Australia’s best real Christmas trees; refining genetic selection, soil management, and embracing new technologies.

In that time, more than 630,000 trees have found their way into homes across the country – and today, over 100,000 are grown each year!

If you’re up for an adventure, visit the farm in full swing and take a trunk full of real magic home with you.
